SMB3 wouldn't have been as good as it was if you were given P-Wings in every stage. It's not very secretive at all, and it completely breaks the game since it essentially acts as a mushroom house that always has all the best items and can be used infinity times. Top Secret Area is even more troublesome. The ability to re-enter levels kind of hurts the flow game in some ways, as it becomes too easy to enter a level, grab a couple of items, and then exit back to the map screen. I love SMW, but that's flawed game design. This wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that cape literally lets you fly over half of the stages without requiring any real skill. The cape is too readily available (especially after you get the green switch palace about 10 minutes into the game).
